As the team works to bring the Doropo mine to life, Country Manager Karl Akueson is paying the same care and attention to cultivating trust throughout the community.
Not every visit heralds an announcement. This month’s video follows the recent visit of Doropo’s new Country Manager. His travels took him across Bounkani, greeting village chiefs, sitting down with young people and women’s groups, and listening to their hopes for the process.
On 7 October, Karl Akueson, the new Country Manager for the Doropo gold mine, began his tenure by speaking with the people.
In keeping with local custom, in Herowedouo, Kalamon and Lagbo Karl greeted the village chiefs. He continued by speaking with the subprefect in Kalamon. At every step, making sure introductions and conversations are never rushed.
Karl also made certain he had time to listen. Young people and women’s groups spoke candidly about their expectations, their concerns and their hopes. After hearing everyone’s stories, Karl recorded every point for follow-up.
It’s been six months since the open dialogue at Doropo that began this relationship. And while the machinery has moved and the project has taken shape, the importance of conversation has never been forgotten. See how relationships are being nurtured across Bounkani.
